Friday 1st August – National Big Butterfly Count on Normandy Common

No experience necessary – all are welcome! A joint event with Normandy Conservation Volunteers. There is no charge. Meet at the football/tennis car park on Normandy Common, 9:30-12:30. Dates may change due to bad weather, so keep an eye on your email and this website.

Friday 14th August – Discover Normandy’s Moths and Bats

Join us for an evening of moth trapping* and looking for bats on Normandy Common. This popular annual event provides great sightings, improves local species records and helps us learn about the nature around us.

No experience necessary – all are welcome! There is no charge. Bring a torch and wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This event is weather dependent – please check your email and our website for updates if conditions are unsuitable.

*No moths are harmed – they are attracted to a light trap, identified and released

Monday 2nd November – Christmas: A Natural History

Join Mark Wright for a slightly sideways take on the animals, plants and stories of Christmas. Enjoy some of the usual suspects – but be ready for some slightly tenuous links too!

Mark is back by popular demand, having given us talks about natural history and its links to Halloween and the Joy of Sex.

Charges for in-person FNW talks and walks

Free for children and students under 18

Virtual talks are free of charge

In the Summer we usually have walks rather than talks.

Our talks are usually on the first Monday of each month from September to April at St Marks Church Hall for a 19.30 start.

Wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee are available to buy from 19:00pm

The atmosphere at our talks is very informal and everyone is welcome to come – both adults and children. Our speakers are always happy to answer any questions the audience has – and there are usually very interesting discussions!
